DOMINIC GIARDINO (9th grade clarinet) has been selected as a member of the 2009 Florida All-State Concert Band (9th & 10th grade students)! This is a huge achievement as the All-State band is one of the hardest and most competitive bands to make. Dominic auditioned back in September via a live recording. He is one of only two students chosen from FBA District 20 (Keys Schools and private schools from Miami-Dade county). Dominic will travel to Tampa in January to perform with the best band students from around the state.
CONGRATULATIONS!
The Florida Bandmasters Association is the governing body for instrumental music educators throughout the state of Florida. It exists, as do associations for bands, choirs, and orchestras, in every state of the country to promote and develop band programs by providing opportunities for both directors and students to participate in events that foster growth of musicianship.

One of the many purposes of the Florida Bandmaster's Association Music Performance Assessments are to provide opportunities for students and directors to perform in an environment which provides critical evaluation of its performance by noted experts in the field of band performance. The assessment also allows opportunities for students and directors to perform for their peers in formal concert and marching band settings. This performance provides a goal becomes the vehicle for continued growth in the application of musical fundamentals and concepts.

The Marching Music Performance Assessment is judged in the following areas: Music Performance, Marching and Maneuvering, General Effect, and Auxiliary (Color Guard). There is one judge designated to each of these categories, with two adjudicators judging Music Performance, as it is the most important of all the categories. Each judge creates a CD of comments and a comment sheet which contains a rubric for grading all areas. These tools are used by students and the director to examine and analyze the performance upon completion.
The KWHS Band earned straight "Superior" ratings at the District 15 FBA Marching MPA on November 1st at Coral Springs High School. There were 31 other high school bands from Broward and Monroe Counties present to be evaluated also. There are five ratings a band can receive: Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor.
